My name is Lee Pearce, and I was a photojournalist for 50 years, working around the world.
I have been travelling since I was 16, and have lived in Australia, London, and Madrid, and have spent time in the Middle East, India, Asia and the Pacific Islands
I have written and photographed hundreds of magazine articles, initially on politics, rock 'n' roll, fashion and movie stars, then realised that I preferred seeing real stars in out-of-the-way places, and documented traditional customs before they were swamped by mass tourism.
After examining many religions, I became an Evolutionist. The fantastic ability of nature to evolve into such a miraculous series of species that can survive in every niche of the environment is enough mystery, fascination, and wonder for me, so I focused on nature and wildlife stories.
I have photographed and produced quite a few books over the years. Here are. three of them.
The first, on Fiji in 1972, enabled me to spend months travelling to offshore Islands, taking local ferries and buses and staying in small villages or sometimes sleeping on the beach. The second meant visiting most of the geological marvels on this amazing island. Often camping by myself on mountain tops and in rainforests, sometimes miles from humans. I experienced the powerful spirit of our land.
The third book enabled me to collate the 30-year collection of photographs of the north coast of New South Wales, where I have been based for the last forty years.
Twelve years ago, I lost 75% of my sight and began writing books that drew on all periods of my long life, with facts, photographs, fiction, and fantasies.
The first of these books, 'Outside Looking In’, traces my life from a young photographer searching for meaning, through my work in the era of sex and drugs and rock n ' roll, with 120 photographs taken at that time.
The second, 'Karma in Nirvana', is an afterlife satire on myself and humanity. There are very few books available where the narrator dies on the first page.
My latest book, 'The End of the Road', is an eco-thriller filled with action and hope. All are available on Amazon.
