At least 60,000 years ago, humans migrated from Asia. These humans eventually established over 250 nations and lived lightly on the land, causing little environmental degradation.
If those 60,000 years are reduced to a one-hour time scale, European settlers have been here for about 4 1/2 seconds. In that brief moment of geological time, we have lost more than 100 endemic species to extinction: 40 mammals, 9 birds, and 30-40 plants, representing one of the world’s highest rates of biodiversity loss.
This deplorable result was caused by slaughtering our native wildlife and introducing exotic species of animals and plants. Then polluting our skies with carbon emissions, poisoning our oceans and rivers with chemicals and plastics and by clearing wildlife habitat for farming, using herbicides that kill beneficial insects.
I have been observing all these generation-threatening decisions made by the skulduggery, corruption and incompetence of both major political parties during my 50-year career in media.
And it's still happening!
We are a vain nation, constantly waving our made-in-China flags and declaring that "we are the best country in the world", despite our recent history.
But underneath, most of the population is insecure and worried about invasion from Asia, kept that way by the two Big Brothers depicted on my new flag, who, over many years, have warned us of the dangers of the "Yellow Peril” to our north, in order to keep us sending our troops to participate in their brutal wars, and all of them in the last 80 years have been lost. Our gullible politicians have sacrificed thousands of our military personnel to death, injury and suicide.
Only two Australian prime ministers have ever stood up to the Big Brothers. The first wasJohn Curtin in 1942, who redirected Australian troops from Europe to New Guinea. He died of stress in office. The other was Gough Whitlam, who threatened to close the USA spy base at Pine Gap, which led to the overthrow of his government.
Ever since, no Australian prime minister has had the backbone to stand up to our latest big brother, who, along with his cohort of AI billionaires, is leading us down the road to Neo-Feudalism.
